Really? After all this time?
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor is investigating whether "Jon & Kate Plus 8" is complying with child labor laws. A Labor Dept. spokesperson says there's been a complaint and they are investigating.
A TLC rep tells us, "TLC fully complies with all applicable laws and regulations. "Jon & Kate Plus 8" is no exception. For an extended period of time, we have been engaged in cooperative discussions and supplied all requested information to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor. We will continue to engage the appropriate officials and meet any standards or regulations that are applicable to TLC productions."

I don't understand. Child labor laws as in the kids being on the show is like them working? Or am is my brain just totally not working today?

They think that whole dog and pony show is "over working" the kids? I think it's exploitation but not a labor issue. (that's just me though)

Isn't there some kind of law about how often/long a child under a certain age can be on the set of a show? I remember something about it with the Olsen twins and Full House and that's why they had to use twins. I could be right off my rocker but I seem to recall something along those lines.
I'm curious to see where this goes...
hmmm all I keep thinking about is if they get a divorce how the heck is Jon supposed to afford child support

Judging by the car he drives and the house they live in I doubt money is much of an issue for them now...

No I don't think money is an issue with them. They get $50,000 per episode.
Okay what about all the other family reality shows on TLC?

True! What about the duggars? Doesn't each child work any way? A 5 year old watching a newborn or something

I think, if anything, it would have to do with the age of the children. The other TLC shows don't have young kids (as in 4 or 5 year olds) do they? I don't watch any of them so I really don't know.
Oh, and the Duggars don't count. They have a show done about them every time Mama Duggar pops out another baby, not cameras in their house a few days a week every week.

That's actually not true. They have a regular show on TLC called 18 kids and counting- it's not just a special.

Right! And there is another family on TLC, Table for 12 and they little kids. And for that matter, I think the Mom's on Toddler and Tiara's should get in trouble for before Jon & Kate! Look at what they do to their little girls!

I thought that was just a special. I didn't realize it was a regular thing. It's not on every week is it? Like I said, I don't watch any of those shows so I really have no clue... :hehe:
And yes, Toddlers and Tiaras is just gross. I saw about 10 minutes of it once and turned it off...

Does anyone really think what they're doing to the kids is all that bad? It's their decisions as parents to allow the crews into their home. The children are fed, loved, and well taken care of it seems. So what's the big deal? These kids are not acting and they're not scripted. You know, in fact, if I recall from the last episode I saw Kate specifically said they only let the camera crews come for one day out of the 5 day "Girls getaway" with her daughter. How is that abuse and against child labor laws? If she really was working her she'd have them there every.single.day.
If I recall TLC came to them to do a special and TLC came to them to continue a series. Here was an IT guy and a SAHM trying to raise 8 kids under 3 or 4. It's money and a way to provide. Unfortunately, or fortunately, it's turned into a lucrative business and a tabloid's wet dream (which is what may hurt the children the most).
I don't know....there are more people that do more harm to their children. Abusive and neglectful parent are doing worse things than having a camera crew in the house. :eyeroll:

The fact that the paparazzi is now following them around is what bothers me. I don't give a rat's ass what they do to make money but it does bother me that the press are hounding them. Unfortunately that goes right along with being a celebrity these days. I don't agree with it (the paprazzi make me sick) but that's the way it goes. No one should be shocked when their fame suddenly brings on a riot of photographers and nasty tabloid stories. It's not just affecting the adults now, it's affecting their children.
