View Full Version : Potty training??...Poop
So we are having pretty good luck with the potty training so far. I made the switch to underwear around the house last week. The first day we did it for 2hours and he had 9 accidents. I thought I was doomed. However, the second and third day went much much better and today he had no pee accidents at all. I even got him to pee on the potty at Target when we were out. :D The pooping has not gone as smoothly. He is going in his undies. He seems to be getting more aware of it and starts to whine or tell me he needs to go potty after he has already started pooping his pants. So, is it going to stay like this forever or what? Just wondering if your kiddos figured it out fairly quickly or what helped them get it.
Anyone else potty training right now? How's it going for you and what's working?
It took James a long while...though he would cry and scream for like 2 hours and then just poop on the floor and then cry and scream a lot more because he pooped on the floor.
BUT James also did all that drama with peeing so Talon might just take to it quick once he realizes what he's doing. Potty training is such a process and I am not looking forward to it with Matthew at all.
Lots of luck! And congrats on the peeing!!:hula:

It took us a while to figure it out, but he's got the hang of it now. He gets a jelly bean after if he goes poo poo on the potty and not any in his underwear. That helped him figure it out quick. No he poos and says "Get jelly bean" while pooping. :hehe:

We're not having much luck at all with the poop thing either, and no amount of bribery is working. He pooped on the potty the very first day I tried it, and I haven't been able to get him to do it since. I have no idea what to do! He'll pee in the potty all day long as long as I remind him every 20 minutes or so, but he's definitely not telling me when he needs to pee and if I forget to ask, he'll pee in his underwear. So I have absolutely no advice but wanted to say we're in about the same boat!

Everyone I've talked to has told me that getting them to poo on the potty is the hardest part of training especially with boys. We haven't had any problems with it but I think that's because Ben was older when we started training at just over 3 years old. He's poo'd in his undies once and hasn't since (not that it won't happen again but he's been doing an amazing job with it). He's completely house trained now (like a dog :hehe:) but still wears a diaper when we go out. We'll move to using the toilet without a special seat in a week or so.
We had a sticker chart and he got treats when he used the potty. One sticker and one jelly bean when he peed, two stickers and two jelly beans when he poo'd. When he'd earned 10 stickers he got a Hot Wheels car and when he'd filled up the chart (60 stickers, I believe) he got a LEGO farm. It was bloody expensive but bribery did the trick. ;) He seems to have lost interest in the chart and the treats because he hasn't asked for either in weeks.
Just keep plugging away. Eventually he'll get it and you won't have to worry about it anymore. Hang in there! :support:

I don't really have any advice, but good luck! Sounds like he's doing really well over all!

I think he's doing good and you're on the right track. We are doing it casually. I'll ask Will & sometimes he'll tell me he has to go but we use bribery too (raisinets) He'll get the idea of it. I know it's frustrating but he seems to be doing well because now he tells you even if it's halfway through rather than hiding.

Randy was 3 when we pottied trained, so I think it was a little easier. But even so, he did still poop quite a bit at first.
I tried to make a game out of it. You know how you get boys to aim with the cheerio, I tried to get Randy to bury the cheerio. :hehe:
It gets better though. When he has an accident, take him into the bathroom and let him watch you put the poop into the toilet. Ask him a lot if he has to go.
And just hang in there...it will happen!

Poop was so hard for us, Cash was like scared of it. He'd do like Jo said James did, cry that he had to go for 2 hours but refuse to go on the potty and eventually go in his underwear. The sicker chart, where he got stickers that added up to a reward, is what saved us. Leah that was actually your idea, so thank you! We implemented it again with his regression that happened last month and we've had no poop in the underwear since.

We are going to try right after Christmas. I have off for 10 days and hopefully it goes smooth but I am NOT looking forward to it!
He will get the hang of it though!

The darn sticker chart hasn't worked for us either. Boo.
We are using a combination of bribes. :p Stickers, a sticker chart, hot wheels, Spiderman fruit snacks. :hehe: I'm slowly phasing out some of the bribes and just so happen to forget or distract him to something else after praising him.
We got our first poop in the potty today! Yay!:hula: He was totally scared and didn't want to. He kept running back and forth saying he wanted to go potty but then he'd sit on the potty a minute, whine and want to get up. Finally after doing this like 4 times I think he couldn't hold it anymore and was putting his hand by his butt and whinning. I said "come on, let's run to the potty" and we did. He whinned a lot, but then he pooped and was quite proud after he figured out what just happend. :hehe: He said "two poops!" "Yay...I did it!" "I a big boy!"
