Chandler is drinking 6oz each bottle now. I just started this last week. Is that the right amount to be giving him? He had his 4 month check-up today and he weighed 12lbs 11oz and is 24.5inches long. He is 10% in weight and 25% in height. His dr said to wake him at night fr a couple of feedings, but I was alwasy told to never wake a baby. I am starting him on cereal this week too, so that should help him chunken up some...i hope.

I always say to go with doc's recommendations...we had to wake Annie for a few months because she was on a special formula to help with her constipation. I wouldn't fully wake her, but just get her awake enough to take the bottle. She'd drift right back to sleep about halfway through, but kept sucking! :)

Ben has always been a skinny guy being in the 10th percentile (or below) for weight but he's been consistent through his 2 years so my doctor didn't worry. He started sleeping through the night when he was 6-8 weeks old and I didn't bother to wake him up. I've always felt it was breaking some kind of law to wake a sleeping baby... :hehe: My doctor wasn't concerned with it either so I never woke him up. (Ben was breast fed until he was 2 months old and then I pumped)
I would think (and this is just my opinion) that if Chandler is gaining consistently, even if it is just a small amount, it shouldn't be a worry. Is he growing in length at all? That was one of the reasons my doctor wasn't worried. He wasn't gaining much weight but he was getting longer. I should add that Ben went in to see the doctor every month for the first year. She likes to keep a close eye on their growth.

He grew half an inch in one month. He is 2 inches longer from his 2nd month appointment though.

With Tyler, I formula fed, and if I remember correctly, he ate around 6 ounces at that age. How long is he sleeping? Tyler was on 12 hour stretches by then (sigh, I miss that), but tanked up at night- he would eat 8 or more oz before bed, or do two feedings in two hours, etc. Or he would do it in the morning.
What percentiles was he in before?

He sleeps all night...9 to 12 hours.
He was in the 25th percentile at his 2nd month apt. and when he was born he was in the 10th percentile.
I don't think he could handle an 8oz bottle right now. I know he would spit it all up.

If he was in the 10th percentile to begin with, I don't know that I would be too concerned just yet. I was always concerned that Tyler was in lower percentiles for weight(8-20), but my pedis (in both Georgia & Utah) said that as long as he was above the 5th, not to worry. It's more about trending, and they go through phases. So, as long as it wasn't a steady decline regularly, not to worry. I don't see how much waking him up at night would do if he's not extremely underweight, especially with reflux. I could be wrong, but I would be hesitant to interrupt his sleep. Does he want to have you come back in for a weight check any time soon? I would think that would be more effective first than altering his routine if he' s mostly doing well..
I'm sorry you're having to deal with all this too!! :support:
Oh, also, while thinking about it, I don't know that we moved up to those eight ouncers until closer to 6 months..

If you are doing 6 oz and he is handling that I'd leave it at that. Conner didn't drink 8 until, I think about 8 or 9 months. He'll let you know if he needs more. If he starts eating more often that may be a sign of needing a bit more but for his age I think 6 is perfect.
