Man, I'm beat. I am trying to just nurse since I sorta can now. (waiting to see the LC on Tuesday).

I have been nursing James from 10am up until about 12:30. I finally told DH to just give him some pumped milk because I needed a break (and so did my nipples).

Quick question though: Without the shield he gets VERY frantic and turns red and starts screaming. I know I am spraying him because I tried when he unlatched. Do you think it comes out too fast?? With the shield is perfectly fine but super lazy.

Shelby was the same way with the shield. She would be too impatient, though to wait for the milk to come out and would immediately pull away and then get frantic and yell and refuse to latch. I had to pump until letdown and then have her latch. It was really hard when I was trying to wean her off the shield, but that seemed to work best.

It does sound like you have overactive letdown. Elise was like that in the beginning, and so was Andrew. As they grew, they were able to catch up with it. I would unlatch them and let it spray a little into a rag and then put them back on. I never used a shield.
