I swear Conner turned one and it just mean now! Ugh! He's always wanting to smack me and he pinches Eric. He gets so mad that he pulls on his shirt and stuff. It's scary! I want my sweet baby back. :( He will smack me in the face when I tell him no! :look: I don't like it...Not one single bit! :shakehead:

Charlie did that. So at around 13 months I had to start time out. Amazingly after a lot of work, and a lot of time he understood and stopped being a turd. No more biting from him!

I hate when they suddenly become little turds!

I know what you mean!

Farah...how do you do the time out? Doesn't he just get up and walk away? Just curious and needing some ideas here too. ;)

Eli went through this. Really I had to do some hard yelling and not letting up. Everytime he did it I corrected him.

Ava was hitting, pinching, and biting too...she thought it was funny. Every time she did it I would tell her "no that hurts!" , then I say "nice touch" and show her how to be gentle.

She has stopped the biting and the pinching, but still hits. I just keep telling her no and hopefully she will get it.

I think sometimes she gets confused because she does the tickle thing and then adds some hitting in there, so we just have to work on it.

Most of the hitting though is when she is mad about something so it's clear she is hitting out of anger.

I think it is definitely a normal phase. We did time-outs too. It took a few times. Initially, we would stand over him while he sat down on one of the bottom steps. Or, if he tried to get up, firmly tell him no and have him sit back down. We'd get the fits, the tears, etc., but ultimately it was really effective. Tyler is definitely going to be my better-behaved child :hehe: I do think the effectiveness of time out has to do with the child's personality, but it's worth a shot. And consistency is definitely key.

I'm sorry he's being mean! :support:

I'm thinking of getting a time out chair or something. I'm scared. lol

Ben did that too. He turned one and it was like someone flipped a switch. Suddenly he was a little jerk. We were persistent and kept at him to 'be nice' and eventually he stopped hitting as much. He still takes swings at us when he's angry but we're working on that so hopefully it'll stop soon.

We have a time out stool that we put by the front door (our house is small and that's the only place to put him where he can't get at something to play with). We've only had to do a few time outs and so far he hasn't tried to get up off the stool.

I just have to come in and say I am dying with the names: turd and jerk

Ok, I'm done!

Basically it took about 20 times of consistency, hard work, and firmness. The first step was I would grab his hand and say "No! We don't bite" and if he did it again we'd do time out. I put him in the corner that became the time out corner (free of anything he could touch that will hurt him) and stood over him. He tried to get away and I'd just firmly say "No. Time out!" and put him back. I did this over....and over.....and over.....and over.....and over.....and over....and over. All the while he'd scream, yell, pound his head on the floor or the wall, lurch back (I'd catch his head so it wouldn't hit hard, but I'd let him just lay there) and just throw a fit. Finally after he sat there for 15-30seconds I would pick him up. Then I'd cuddle him and tell him "I love you and you're my boy, but you can't hurt Mommy/our friends/so and so like that because it's mean. You're a good boy and we don't do mean things because we love each other." He'd want to cuddle for a while after (I think it's because he needed reassurance that I did love him :idontknow: I had to keep this up every.single.time for about 15-20 time outs and finally one day he got it. I put him in the corner and he cried, but he didn't move. After 30seconds-1minute I picked him up and gave him the talk.

We haven't had to do a time out in about a month. Watch, I'm jinxing myself with this post.:hehe:

You probably are Farah since you've said it twice in one day! lol

We're going to get a time out chair soon and that's what we're gonna do. Thanks to Farah's advice. :)
