View Full Version : Maybe the "no nap" thing is not bad after all
I can't really complain (ok, maybe I can) but for 3/4 days Matthew's has been fighting a nap like crazy and yesterday we had no nap! He was literally a walking zombie come 5 o'clock and I was DONE.
BUT last night he slept from 6:30-7:30 am (woke up once to have a sip of something) and went to bed easy peasy. I can do this if every night is like this.
When did your child start giving up their nap? Matt went to 1 nap pretty much as soon as he turned 1.

Maddy started with this a couple of months ago. Like this week, so far she has only had a nap two days. It seems like some nights she sleeps better and just doesn't seem to need one, but if she gets super fussy half way thru the day then I lay down with her and make her take a nap. It is give and take in this house. On the days she is in a good mood and doesn't take a nap she goes down for the night about 7pm, sleeps like a rock all night and sleeps until between 7:30 and 8am. But yesterday she got fussy so we laid her down. She napped for 3 or 4 hours, tossed and turned all night in bed, and was up for the day at 6am. If it wasn't for her being such a brat some days then we wouldn't bother with naps at all.

Shane went down to one nap at 10 months..It was awful!! When he naps now...let's just say somedays are better than others. Yay for Matt sleeping so long though....I read at this age though only 2% of toddlers fully give up their nap. My book says to stick with a nap routine and if after 2 weeks there are no naps then consider them over. If not then a nap may still be in order. Whatever you decide good luck!!

Does he watch TV?
Mackenzie stopped napping about 2 or so, but I would put a cartoon on for her to lay in my room and watch. It gave me a few minutes to my self and it gives them a few minutes to relax.

Gabriel still naps religiously during the day from about 12:45 - 2:15. During the week when he is with the sitter I tell her to wake him up at 2:15 even if he is still sleeping because he will have problems going to bed early. The kid will sleep for 4 hours if I let him but then he won't go to bed until about 10ish and then he is miserable at 7am when we need to get up. On the weekends, I do not practice what I preach to my sitter because I will put him down after lunch and I very RARELY wake him up. I will shower, clean and do laundry while he is napping and that usually takes about 2 hours and I am then ready to nap myself. DH is never home at this time so I call this time my Lifetime Movie Network Hour!
Naps depend from kid to kid. On days where we are running around all day and he is only napping periodically in the car he is an absolute holy terror so we definitely will not be cutting naps out any time soon!
Well he napped for an hour today. I give up. (oh and he's tearing up the living room with DH now)

I will curl in the fetal position and cry when aiden decides to stop napping. Seriously, I need him to nap until he goes to kindergarten. I'll be the first to admit that I NEED that 2 hour break from him during the day.
I need that break toO!
He slept 4 hours yesterday :look: Then slept through the night in HIS OWN BED. You have no idea what a miracle that is. No idea.
