I don't know where else this could go so I put it in here.
For parents (like dads) who have little trucks, like a Ranger, and who have children, what do they do as far as letting their child ride with them when they aren't old enough to sit in the front seat?
James has driven all of our kids in his vehicles, when he owned the Ranger and the now his Wrangler. If he has all three kids, Ekaterina ends up in the front.
I am FINE with it, I'm just wondering if anyone knows law-wise what the rule is.

I actually don't think there is a law against it if they're over a certain weight and height. In IL it's 4'9" and 100lbs (I think it's 100lbs, maybe it's 60....I'm not sure b/c DH teases me about it).

Ekaterina weighs 60 pounds. :hehe: She's never going to reach 100.
Well, for his ranger, there wasn't technically a back seat. Only a front seat. So are they just not supposed to ride in it at all?

Essentially, it looks like if over 8 & over 40 pounds can ride in the front seat (with belt of course)
Here's some info:
Child Passenger Protection Act
The Child Passenger Protection Act requires the use of an appropriate safety restraint system for children under age 16. Any person transporting a child under age 16 is responsible for that child’s safety. Children under age 8 must be appropriately secured in an approved child restraint system, which includes a booster seat. A child weighing more than 40 pounds may be transported in the back seat of a motor vehicle while wearing only a lap belt if the back seat is not equipped with a combination lap and shoulder belt.
Public Act #83-8, The Child Passenger Protection Act, has been in effect in Illinois since July 1,1983. The law, amended effective January 1, 2004 requires anyone who transports children in Illinois in non-commercial vehicles to do so in the following manner:
. Children under the age of eight years must be secured in an appropriate child restraint system, more commonly called a child safety seat. Child safety seats include infant seats, convertible seats (rear-facing for infants and forward-facing for toddlers) and booster seats that are used with the vehicle lap and shoulder belt system.
. Children weighing more than 40 pounds may be transported in the back seat of a motor vehicle while wearing only a lap belt if the back seat is not equipped with a lap and shoulder belt system.
. Children and young people eight and up to 16 years of age must be
secured in a properly adjusted safety belt in any position in the vehicle.
. The parent or legal guardian of a child under the age of eight years is responsible for providing a child safety seat to anyone who transports his or her child.
. Every person under the age of 18 years who transports a child eight years of age or older (up to 18 years) is responsible for securing that child in a properly adjusted and fastened safety belt or child safety seat.
