I didn't expect it all! I didn't expect to be induced or to not see my baby when he came out. That was probably the worst pain. And I am with Ashley.. Totally didn't expect how much pain I was going to be in after I had him, and that it was gonna be that long!

I was a bit surprised by the fact that my water broke but labor didn't start. That was the first time my water broke before labor and the fact that I had all those preterm contractions then when it was time even the pitocin wasn't starting the contractions :eyeroll: Other than that I went into this labor/birth with no expectations or plans because my experience was that when it comes to labor/birth there is no "plan".
I was very surprised that I didn't hurt after delivery either. The only pain I had were afterpains while I was nursing. Everything else was fine, then again, I had no stitches this time either.
I went in there with an open mind. I didn't expect for it to take so long and I didn't expect to give birth vaginally because I was induced. I also expected it to hurt A LOT more than it did but I had awesome meds and felt nothing! I'd rather give birth than attempt breastfeeding again. :thumb:

Now, don't hit me, but both times I wasn't expecting it to be so easy! I really had two good deliveries- Tyler's was just under 8 hours from the time I walked into the hospital, and Lily was just under 4. Let me tell you, 5cm is not a fun place to be, so I was thrilled to have my drugs & epidural. I don't do pain. But overall, I was surprised at how little pushing I had to do (20 mins with Tyler, about 2 pushes with Lily- she did all the work :hehe:) Giving birth was never the problem for me, it was the pregnancies!!

You know, I didn't have any expectations of it at all. I think I didn't expect how tough I'd be and how good I'd do overall. I didn't expect the PP pain at all, that's for sure.

That's the way it was for me all 4 times. I think my "reward" for a tough pregnancy was a fairly easy delivery. All 4 times I dealt with different degrees of preterm labor but when actual labor started it went pretty quickly. I labored 3 1/2 hours with my first, was induced and delivered within 9 hours with my second (from the time of induction), delivered within 8 hours of arriving at the hospital the third time but slept for 6 of those hours (unmedicated) and was induced the 4th time and only labored for about 4 hours before delivery.

I didn't expect to make it out alive... :hehe:
Nothing really surprised me. Labour was incredibly painful but quick, delivery was hard work and all said and done I was finished in just over 4 hours.
One thing that does surprise me is that even though it hurts like hell we just 'know' what to do. Our bodies take over and we deal with the pain (with a few shouts and curses here and there) because we know we have no control over it. The survival instinct kicks in, I guess. You just do it because you don't have a choice and you know that it will end. I don't know that a man could hand over control like that and that's why we're the ones who give birth. :twothumbs:
I think you should all ask for ambien and an epidural next time :hehe:
Am I the only one that didn't feel a thing or was my punani so numb from trying to get him out for 3 hours?

No time for drugs with my delivery. I had some pathetic drug (fentinol, I think it was called) that they gave me every 10 minutes or so but all it did was take the edge off the next contraction then I had to wait another 10 minutes (and 3 or 4 contractions) before I could get another dose. It was useless.
I think that if you don't tear or need an epidural during delivery the recovery is much easier and much less painful. I had no pain either but I also had only a tiny tear that didn't need any stitches.

I didn't expect pretty much everything that happened. I progressed very quickly for a first time mom and the contractions were 1000 times more painful then I ever imagined. Having to get stopped because the baby was face up and really wasn't turning. Having to have oxygen the whole time. Getting a fever and having Shane's heartbeat go so high. Having the whole thing turn into an emergency and being rushed with forceps. Not being able to see the baby after he was born. Being stitched up for over an hour and still have to have surgery because I didn't heal. I NEVER thought I would have to go over a year after delivery without having sex. (6 months will be because DH is getting deployed) The pp pain has been worse then I could have ever imagained.....I think I'm done...Sorry..I didn't have a good experience.

I didn't expect to be ready to deliver when we got to the hospital.
I didn't expect to have the doctor shove her hand in me to turn Ava. (WORST PAIN EVER)!
I didn't expect to feel everything...I really thought that if I just made it to the hospital everything would be ok and I would get some drugs.
I did expect to tear, but I thought that they would numb me or something while they stitched me up.
I knew that I would be sore afterward, but I really didn't know it would be so bad.
I knew that nursing would hurt, but I didn't expect my boobs to be so sore and for nursing to hurt for so long.

The worst part for me was when they came in and stripped my membranes before I had my epidural. Can you say HELLO?!?!?!?!?!?!
