Jacob was skateboarding today at a local skate park. I picked him up and everything seemed fine. About two hours later he tells me "Mom, I think I may have broken my arm". WHAT!?!?! He holds up the short sleeve on his t-shirt and sure enough there is a HUGE knot and bruise by his bicep. UGH, this kid is going to be the death of me. If you don't know, he had to have a very extensive ankle surgery last June because he had an misdiagnosed broken ankle years ago and due to a bone fragment floating around in there for years he had tons of damage to bone and soft tissue that needed to be repaired.
Well, we loaded up and headed to the ER. They did x-rays and while we waited the doctor came in. He saw the knot and asked for the nurse to set up a cast try (that's never a good sign). He had Jacob moving his arm in a gazillion different directions and kept feeling the huge knot and going "Hmmm". He went a took a look at the x-rays and came back to tell us "I am shocked, it's not broken. I can honestly say I have never seen a contusion that severe without a broken bone underneath so I guess we don't need the cast tray after all." Thank goodness it's not broken but he's definitely sore. The doctor did say they will have a radiologist review the films and if they find anything they will call us. I told him I wasn't too concerned since he didn't see anything but he told me not to be at all surprised if we get a phone call since Jacob still has growth plates and often times they can "mask a break"; whatever that means. So, I am still not too concerned that they will find anything and in past experiences I know they always have a radiologist look over the films to be sure.
Never a dull moment around here, that's for sure!
