If you're making the big dinner, what must-haves are on the list?

You guys are including gravy on those menus, right? I could NOT have Thanksgiving dinner without gravy. :))
Don't be scared of the turkey. They have those wonderful little popper-uppers that will tell you when it's done, and all you really have to remember is to make sure it is done with plenty of time to rest of the counter. Do not carve it too quickly after it's done, and you will be fine. Just make sure you have a really good gravy. lol
I'm not hosting so I won't be doing much. Just two dishes, the green bean casserole and a dessert. I haven't decided yet what dessert I am going to make, but right now I am leaning towards cheesecake. I've never made it from scratch and would like to try.
Can't wait to hear your birds come out!!

Yes, gravy is an absolute must! I'm not hosting either, so I'll just be enjoying my inlaws excellent cooking. I may offer to bring some mac and cheese. A friend has a recipe for it that I've been dying to make. We'll also eat at my parents but they aren't the best cooks. :hehe:
We're going to my moms but word is that my oldest sister wants to cook :puke: So I'm making sure to bring some stuff I'll eat and not barf. :hehe:
Green bean and carrots
Apple/Sausage stuffing
Brussel sprouts with bacon
Clam Chowder
Corn and corn bread mix
Rolls
My other sister is bringing:
Spinach lasagna
Roasted Broccoli
Apple dessert

I'm "hosting" this year but I don't think the guest list is any longer than one at the moment - my SIL. So I'll keep it small.
turkey
stuffing
mashed taters and gravy
green bean casserole
maybe corn something or another
rolls or some other type of side bread
pumpkin cheesecake

Most years, it's whatever the fancy hotel buffet has on offer.
We're going to FiL's this year though, so I guess fried turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie...pretty standard issue.

I've never hosted Thanksgiving. When Dan and I aren't with our families our tradition is to go to Maggiano's for their Thanksgiving Feast. If we are eating with family, I always make this (http://recipecircus.com/recipes/mystic6799/VEGETABLES/Boston_Market_Sweet_Potato_Casserole.html)sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole (recipe on the back of the French's Fried Onions can, this (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cranberry-Sauce/Detail.aspx)cranberry sauce, and chocolate cheesecake.
Along with that my family has turkey, canned cranberry sauce (my mom hates the fresh stuff), stuffing, gravy, croissants, and mashed potatoes. For dessert we always have pecan pie with the cheesecake.
Last year we had a horrible meal at Hard Rock Cafe. It was one of the only two places having Thanksgiving dinner in Amsterdam. This year I don't think we're doing anything. It's too much work with an infant for me to prepare an entire Thanksgiving meal for two people. Plus it is very expensive because I have to get a lot of the ingredients from the expat shops and turkeys have to be special ordered and are ridiculously expensive.
We are hosting, but it will only be the 3 of us (well four :hehe:), my SIL and her hubby and my DH's 2 cousins- one is married with two kids, so her family will be there too :) 10 people total :hula: Last year it was just 5, so let's hope this turns out as well as it did last year :hula:
turkey
spiral sliced ham
salmon
meatballs
mashed potatoes
stuffing
rice
corn casserole
gravy
cranberry sauce
green bean casserole
green beans
rolls
pumpkin pie
spice cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting
chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting
