Charlie's party is going to be fireman themed. I'm going to be doing a firetruck cake. I decided to do heavy appetizers (veggie "trees", fruit "trees", cheese spread, meatballs, samosas maybe ) and two mealish things: mac'n'cheese (homemade) and chili. There will be 16-20 adults and 8 kids.
Do you think that's good? Should I make more? Should I make something different??

If you wanted, you could let the kids build their own "fires." This is how we learned how to build a fire in Girl Scouts:
mini-marshmellows = fire ring
little dixie cup of water/apple juice/etc = water bucket
pretzel logs = fuel
pretzel sticks = tender
chow mein crunchy noodles = kindling
red hots = hot coals
First, build a fire ring. Then, use 3 half-pretzel logs to form a letter "A". (The easiest fire to learn to build, and the best for cooking, is the A-Frame, which is why Girl Scouts learn it first.) Place a small handful of kindling on top of the A-frame. Then, ~3-4 pretzel sticks (tender) to catch on fire once the kindling is lit. ON top, place another half of a pretzel log for fuel, to keep the fire burning. Around the bottom of the A, sprinkle your red hots. When the coals start glowing red, it's time to cook on your fire so you can eat. Always keep a bucket of water nearby when you are building a cooking fire so that you can put out the flames immediately if necessary. ON a real fire, you sprinkle the water instead of dumping the entire bucket.
I was six when I learned this, but your crowd might be a little young. Just sharing in case....

I would probably add garlic toast to go with the chili but everything you have sounds good!
I like Laurens little fire idea. That would be a cute little snack for the kids that you could have already prepared on mini plates or in mini bowls or even wrapped up as a treat/goody bag for when they leave. :)

I think it sounds like enough, and sounds good.
Not sure about the building of "fires"....seems contradictory to a fireman theme. :hehe:
