I go to my regular doctor and he orders the blood test to check on my thyroid.
Then he sent me to an endocrinologist for further testing and an ultrasound and biopsy.
But your regular doctor is the best place to start. He'll order some simple blood test to get you started.

I definitely think a regular family practice doctor is where to start. They will evaluate you, ask you your symptoms, feel your thyroid and probably order a simple blood test. After that, depending on the results they may order an ultrasound or refer you on to an endocrinologist. Best of luck! I have an appt today for anther u/s with a possible biopsy and I'm terrified.
I went to my OB because it all started after James was born. He checked me and then ran bloodwork. I also went to the Endocrinologist and that's who I am currently seeing.
Good luck!

I skipped the family doctor and went straight to the Endocrinologist. If you don't need a referral, I'd go directly into the Endocrinologist. It will save you time and money.
My OB was the doctor who originally diagnosed me, though. I developed it during pregnancy. After that, I didn't waste my time on a family doctor - I just went straight for the Endo.

Sandy, did you call an Endocrinologist to ask if you HAD to have a referral? My Endocrinologist took me on a Self-Referral. I didn't have any paperwork, lab results or anything from my previous diagnosis.
You could always fib and tell them your Midwife suggested you see one.
Just thinking of a way to save you money. I know that the Endocrinologist is the same price as seeing my FP, in my town anyway. I don't know about yours. I understand how it is to have to pay out of your own pocket.

Well I'm glad you're being forced. Seems to be a pretty common occurrence after baby. Hope everything turns out okay, and you get some answers! :hugs:
