Those of you with thyroid issues, did you have swelling? My knees have been pretty swollen the past few days. So far that's the only swelling I've noticed and am not really surprised since my knees seem to be the worst for pain. I still think the issues are from thyroid issues and I guess I am looking for some untrained professionals to validate me :hehe:

Yes, swelling is common. Water retention in the legs, feet and arms/hands. Swelling in both of your knees sounds like joint inflammation. Ibuprofen will help that, warm compress.

For some people, hypothyroidism can contribute to joint and muscle problems.
Specifically, hypothyroidism may lead to:
Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness, especially in the shoulders and hips
Joint pain and stiffness
Swelling of the knee joint and small joints in the hands and feet
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Reducing pain
Treatment may include a couple approaches.
Adequate thyroid hormone treatment often helps dramatically.
Pain relievers may help, too.
When to see your doctor
Keep in mind that people with the most common form of hypothyroidism have an increased risk of developing other autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis. If pain, stiffness and swelling don't improve after adequate thyroid treatment, consult your doctor. He or she may consider other possible causes of your joint pain.
My knees are so painful. I can hardly bend. And when I do bed you can hear squishes. I haven't noticed any swelling. Did you get checked yet?

I go back to the doctor Monday for the results of my bloodwork. :fingerscrossed:

Not me personally, but from what Rebekah posted, it looks like it could be. I do take my rings off at night when I sleep because my hands swell. Most mornings I wake up with my hands and feet swollen and feeling slightly stiff and painful like arthritis, but not as bad. I don't think I helped you at all. Sorry! :hehe:

Thanks girls.
Michelle, I have that problem with my fingers swelling too but I always have had that problem. From everything I have checked into (which isn't much for fear of finding all the horror/scary stories on google) it really does seem like it's a thyroid issue. Not that I am at all a medical professional capable of making such a diagnosis but my armchair degree qualifies me for self-diagonses :hehe:

You sound like my mother, Sandy. I'm totally kidding! :hehe:
Hey, if you need a diagnosis, my mother will do it for you. If you didn't see it, read my vent. ;)

Rebekah, from what you posted that describes me pretty well. I wonder if the problems with my hands (pain, discomfort and them not functioning right) is from a carpal tunnel type inflamation too. That would actually be a relief because I was beginning to worry about arthritis. Unfortunately the ibuprofen the doctor prescribed for me last week isn't doing much. It does take the edge off but that's about it.

I'm sorry, Sandy. I really hope your blood work reveals something that will be useful in helping you feel better.
Ha! I'll have to ask her which recliner she used. Man, I need to get me one of those.
