I am dying for some sweet pickles!!! I am tempted to try my hand at canning some!!!! Soooo any tips anyone?

I have the Bluebook for canning (or something like that). But I haven't canned yet. I can send you the pickle info from it, though. I will get around to it one of these days. Need to get a pressure cooker, though!

I actually have my Mammaws "canner" which is a HUGE pressure cooker. I actually have to store it out in the shed because it takes up so much room :hehe:

ETA: I actually saw some small pressure cookers on sale at Belk (don't know how big of a chain of stores they are) that were actually really priced well. I just wouldn't use it enough to justify buying one.

I never have on my own. As a kid I always helped my grandma (Gosh, I miss her stewed tomatoes and her pizza sauce!) and my parents. It's been years though. I guess I need to do it so I can get the hang of it and also so I can pass the "tradition" to my own kids.

We never canned strawberry jam, we always followed the freezer jam recipe on the back of the boxes of sure-jel. I might have to try making some jellys. BUT FIRST, sweet pickles :hehe:

My parents canned everything when I was younger. With 6 kids, it was cheaper that way I guess. LOL

They did everything from pickles to applesauce, to spaghetti sauce, to peaches and pears . . . you name it, they tried to can it. LOL

I would love to learn it someday. I'm sure it's a lot different now than from when they did it.

Oh I do every year!

Jams, pickles, hot cauliflower and carrots. This year I plan on doing green beans too. Yumm
