At Aiden's last check-up I asked the doctor about when to start finger foods. He didn't really give me a straight answer...he can be pretty spacey. :zoned:

When did you start giving more solid pieces of food? For instance, diced veggies (cooked) or fruits? And what about soft pieces of meats?

Starting these types of foods makes me so nervous! Aiden already gags on everything (well, anything green ) so I just worry about ever giving him anything that's not a mush!

I googled, and it looks like the recommendation is about 8-10 months.. I think that sounds about right from Tyler. I always checked with his pedi before doing anything, and will with Lily too. But yeah, that seems about right- I think they usually give you a good indication of what they're ready for too!

I think we started with James when he was about 10 months or so. I started actually cooking for him  and he did pretty well. They need teeth but if you give them tiny mushy cubes they can mash them with their gums.

Thanks ladies! I figured it was around the 9/10 month mark. He's already sampled a piece of pita bread...the little sneak took it right off the table while we were out to lunch. He gummed the piece before I could even take it from him. Guess he likes Greek food! :hehe:

We started early with little diced foods or the puffs because Conner has always been really good with chewing. He would chew his baby food :hehe:

We started around 8 or 9 months. 8 with puffs then the rest at 9 :hehe:

I bought some of those puffs yesterday because Babies R Us had them on sale...I have no intention of giving them to him anytime soon, but I was hungry in the car and I think I ate half the can. They're good!

I gave Eli the puffs around 7-8months I think... It was along time before I have give anything to feed himself b/c he didn't get his first tooth till he was 8months old. Then he was 10month before he got the 2nd...

I started William on Puffs at about 7 months. He is just now getting to where he can pick them up AND put them in his mouth. I give him little pieces of food to try on his own like pear, apple, banana, bread, stuff like that.
