View Full Version : I might pull my hair out

So I made a post about Aiden possibly dropping a nap in the mornings. Well, I don't think he's ready for it but he will -not- sleep, no matter what. He's been so cranky and whiny ever since he dropped the extra sleep. I'm talking non-stop whining. My husband thinks it's teeth, which it very well could be, but something tells me it's that he's just tired.
I don't know what to do about it though! Up until this new change in pattern, he was always so easy with naps. I would lay him in his bed and he'd be out in 10 minutes. Now, even though he's tired, he's crying and moaning and groaning.
Oh, and so far his nighttime sleep doesn't seem to be affected. He's just not pleasant at all when he's awake!
Ok. Vent over. :))

Bray went through a period like this for about 2 weeks. Then guess what popped up? 2 bottom teeth. So, it could be because of teething. I hope he gets adjusted soon... It can be frustrating. :bluehug:

 I completely sympathize. My child only randomly sleeps (well, Lily anyway). If it's not related to teething or anything, or overtiredness (maybe put him down a little earlier?) something I found to work rather well is to go out for the morning. We'll go to a playgroup, or the store, etc., come back, she eats, then takes a really good nap. Any other sleep she gets that day are catnaps, but it ends up working out to her *usually* getting mostly enough sleep.
I hope he goes back to his schedule! :support:

It is very frustrating when their routines get crazy, and it's always when you're really enjoying it!
It may be him teething. Hopefully he falls back into his normal schedule. Have you tried teething tablets or Orajel? Maybe you could try those, wait a while and lay him down. Maybe he's just to uncomfortable to sleep.
Good luck! :support:

How many naps is he taking. Sara transitioned at 6 months from 2.5 naps to just 2. I had to make some adjustments as to when to put her to bed, a tad bit earlier than normal (she went from 8 to 7:30). It could be from teething or from learning a new skill. Try to wear him out with some physical activities and see if that might help. Hopefully he will fall back into his routine.

You know, I always forget that their sleep can be interrupted when they learn new things. Now that you mention it, he is in the process of mastering crawling and getting himself to a sitting position from all fours!
Maybe try putting him down a little earlier and some teething tablets to see if that helps. I hope the phase passes quickly. If he is acting cranky and tired, I don't think he should drop the nap. He is just fighting it. The best thing to do is be consistent and do your best to make him comfortable. ;)

I am dealing with this for 3 months now! Tell me why a 3 month old refuses to sleep anywhere but my arms. I want to pull my hair out.
Sorry for the mini vent but I totally feel your pain. Hopefully he gets over it.

Lol, Jo! I dealt with that, too! I finally had to help him learn to sleep in his bed around 4 months. I used to sit on the couch ALL frickin' day with him. My butt still hurts from it. Now he won't sleep anywhere but his crib; not in our arms and not even in the car. He has meltdowns until he's in his bed. I never thought the day would come! lol

William just went through this! I swore he was trying to drop his early morning nap. He would be so whiny all day long and it was driving me insane. I just kept thinking "If you are so upset just go to sleep then!!!!" We went through this for about 2 weeks and he only gave in a took a nap a few times. Even his other naps were screwy. They were really short. His night time sleep was total crap too. I thought I was going to lose my mind. Then everything just went back to normal (and I found he had popped a bottom tooth!!! :hula:)

This gives me so much hope. He was doing well for awhile and then out of nowhere--BAM! It's so frustrating.

I bet it's a tooth, too. I know that that screwed with Charlie so much, too. If anything just do some schedule tweeking and if it works great, if not try something else. It's all a guessing game :hehe:
