What health issues run in your family? When does your dr. recommend screening/testing/watching for signs?

Unfortunately I have a lot. Luckily my doctor understands and doesn't act like I'm horrible for being extra cautious with DS.

Lupus (obviously)[/*:m:1b4ju61h]
Severe asthma[/*:m:1b4ju61h]
Diabetes (b/c of my dad)[/*:m:1b4ju61h]
Kidney Cancer (b/c of my dad)[/*:m:1b4ju61h]
High Blood Pressure (b/c of my mom)[/*:m:1b4ju61h]

So far all is good with him. I hope he gets DH's health since DH is "Strong Like Ox"

I'm really lucky. There are no major health issues in my family.

My dad had heart problems.[/*:m:39qufl2z]
My maternal aunt had breast cancer which resulted in a mastectomy (although now that probably wouldn't happen). 37 years later she's still alive kicking![/*:m:39qufl2z]
My maternal grandfather had colon cancer. Had the tumor removed and went on to the age of 95.[/*:m:39qufl2z]
My mother has high blood pressure but we're assuming that was caused by her father's health failing and my father going in for heart surgery at the same time.[/*:m:39qufl2z]
My maternal grandmother had and my mother has arthritis and I'm starting to notice it in a few joints too.[/*:m:39qufl2z]

The only thing I'm screened for is breast cancer because of my aunt. Normally you don't go for mammograms until the age of 40 but I started going when I was 30.

diabetes and high blood pressure.

Probably a slew of other things I'm unaware of.

Nothing major really. My Dad has high cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides. He controls them all w/ diet, exercise, and medication (for the blood pressure). I believe that both my grandmother and grandfather had diabetes which again, can be helped some through diet and exercise. My mom and dad both have sleep apnea. I'm pretty sure my mom's is from being overweight. Dad's isn't since he's really in shape and healthy for his age. Dad is the one w/ the bad genes it seems, and I tend to take after him. I've already been told twice that I have borderline high-trigylcerides myself.
