So yesterday morning Ava was eating breakfast and started choking....scared the crap out of me!! She gags every once in awhile but had never actually choked on her food. Her face got all red and tears were coming out of her eyes, I grabbed her, threw her over my shoulder and smacked her back...she wasn't getting air, then she finally spit out a chunk of banana and started screaming.
Oh my god I was so scared and crying, getting teary right now just thinking about it. It was all just a matter of seconds, but oh my goodness it hurt my heart!
So has your child ever choked like that?
What did/would you do?

OMGOSH! Poor Ava!
Eli has done this and on Banana's too! I am lucky in the fact that he throws up really easy. So he usually gets up on his own. I try my best to cut his food up small for him but he just ends up shoving bunches in his mouth!
Big ((((Hugs)))) for Mommy!!

Charlie has had scares, but non where I've had to throw him over my leg and whack him. Although, there have been times that I've taken him out of his high chair right as he starts breathing. I would have been so scared, too!!!! :support:

I do the scoop my finger in the back of the throat thing, and that usually works. Cohen chokes ALL THE TIME. He puts way to much food into his mouth and chokes. I've only had to do the finger scoop maybe 5 times when he couldn't cough it up himself. It's definitely terrifying!!
 That is scary!!
Matthew is still small so we haven't had anything like that but he guzzles down his milk and then starts coughing wildly. I just swat his back a few times.
I have had a kid choke on me though. With bacon. I just swung him over my lap and pounded his back til the stuff came out. It's really scary. You have to work fast.
I took a cpr class but I barely remember anything from it.
I found this website if anyone is interested:
http://www.shopcpranytime.org
It's a kit made by the AAP for infant cpr.

Choking scares me to death! When my nephew was 8months old (now 16) he was crawling around on the floor and began choking to the point of not breathing. and they could not dislodge the object to make a long story short the ambulance was called he was rushed to the hospital. It was so bad the ambulance drivers were in tears and when he got to the hospital they gave him his last rights. The object finally came out and it turned out to be a little seed like off of a pine cone or something. It was one of the scariest days fo my life. I will never forget getting to the hospital so worried and finally getting to see him and him looking up at me with those big beautiful blue eyes.
