Did your child use one? How old were they when you took it away? How did you do it?

Here's my situation. Shane is almost 3 months and never even wanted him to use one in the first place. After a week of crying a lot as a newborn I gave it to him. Well now I want to take it away because the last couple days he doesn't want to go to sleep without it. Naps and at night. I'm thinking of just throwing away the ones I have but I don't want him to drive me crazy either. Any suggestions or advice? I tryed getting him to used his fingers but he won't. Help!!

Eli had one up till he was 3months old. We used it b/c he had an awful time doing #2 and his belly hurt so HE though he needed to eat all the time. So the paci help. But once we got the #2 figure out it was good go. So I took it away from him, now it was rough the first couple of days. But come day 3 and on it got better. I just took it away from him cold turkey..

I wouldn't throw them away just put them up and forget about them. Just incase!

Ben used one when he was an infant until he found his fingers and then he stopped using the soother on his own. I guess he figured his fingers were better because they're always there... :P

I agree with Ashley. I wouldn't throw them away, just stash them because you never know if you'll need one or not.

All 3 of mine had a binky. Ryann (my oldest) got rid of hers when she was about 2 1/2 with no problem and my son Who is 2 gave his up a few months ago with no problem at all! My youngest still has hers. I love the binky!! I say if it makes them happy what's the problem?? It keeps them happy, it reduces the risk of SIDS, and it prevents them from putting other things in their mouths that could be much more dangerous.

Conner is 11 months old and loves his paci's. I won't let him have it past two, or at least I hope. I personally wanted him to it over his fingers because I can take them away where his fingers will always be there.. lol

Tyler had one and Lily uses one. We only gave Tyler his at naptime and bedtime starting at a year, and then took it away at 2- he didn't even notice!

Lily enjoys hers too. They always worked for us, so I guess I don't really have any advice! Good luck!

He's young and if you don't want him to have it I'd store it on the side.

That was another reason I gave it to him b/c he started using his fingures and I can't take those away...

I lost that battle. We gave him a soother right off the bat and he picked his fingers over the soother. Not that it really bothers me though. Ben can suck on those little fingers until he's in college if he wants too. :twothumbs: :P

Bryson has used one since day 1! I don't really mind it for now. Lie some of the others he only gets it at naps and at night. He is ok with that so that is how we will keep it. I think for a lot of kids its a security thing and it is good for them to have it.

Ava loves her paci! She doesn't "need" it all the time, but when she is going to sleep I think it's more of a comfort/security thing. She has one in her mouth and one in her hand and she switches them out over and over til she is asleep. :P

Sometimes they end up in her toy basket and when she comes across one she will put it in her mouth.

Both of my older kids had two binkies just before they gave them up. Ryann called hers a rubbie and a suckie. She rubbed one on her check and sucked on the other. Brogan liked his clipped to his shirt with a binky clip. He too would play with one and suck the other.

Matthew loves his paci! We use it all the time  I have no reason to take it away. The pedi said 3 months but I don't see that happening.
