I'm dealing with a sneaky kid right now. He's constantly getting into stuff he shouldn't and hiding while doing it. Sometimes I find out later and then feel weird confronting him on it. He's almost 5. He should be past this stage. Ekaterina did not go through this as long as Tavian is.
Any suggestions?

Hmm, I have no idea.. Tyler's 3 and still in the do things wrong in the open phase  Maybe try a conversation about telling you when he does things wrong?? Sorry, I'm not much help!
I was a sneaky kid also. My mom ignored me which made me really mad. Not sure if it helped or not though. I grew out of it though.

You know, after thinking about it, I think starting a reward system would be a good idea. Make a poster board for all the kids (just so Ekaterina doesn't get jealous) and give gold stars before bed if they didn't do anything bad. If they do, don't give a sticker or remove one (depends on how harsh you want to be). Then, after let's say 7 stickers they get a prize or a treat. Whatever their little hearts desire, whether it be more Mom and Dad time or a new toy from the dollar store.
Maybe just the thought that a reward from being good will come may help until he outgrows it?

Geez... I have no idea what you can do! Farah's suggestion sounds pretty good though. I hope it's just a phase and he pulls out of it soon. :support:
I was a sneaky kid. I think it was around that age that I cut my hair off. It was really long and I hated when my mom washed and brushed it so I hid beside my dresser and chopped it off. I don't know if it was a phase that I grew out of or if my mom scared the bejezus out of me and I stopped being sneaky out of fear... :P

Thanks, everyone.
Maybe I will try the reward system. I find that I am intrinsically motivated by things I really want to do and if I don't want to do something, a reward doesn't help me.
However, I know a lot of people are really different and there's a chance that Tavian is very different from me in that sense so maybe I'll give it a shot. :)
Elaine, why is it always the girls that cut their hair? I think Ekaterina must have cut hers 3 different times. So far, the boys have never tried. Must be the long hair thing. When Ekaterina did it the first time, she said "because my hair was too big". :P

It hurt when my mom washed my hair (it's thick and she had to really dig in to get my head clean) and the tangles sucked. I was tired of it so I cut it. Short. :P
I know when I was a kid brides didn't work. They just made me more stubborn. On the other hand it seems to work with lots of kids so there must be something to it. ;)
Her hair is too big  That's too cute!
I think the reward system might be worth a shot! Good luck Carmen

The reward system could be a good trick! Although, if he's anything like my sister, that could also backfire and make him want to hide things even more.. (my sister was a sneaky child..).
But, like you said, everyone's different- maybe a reward system for every time he tells you when he does something? or a double strike against him when he hides it?? I don't know..

My sister cut MY hair. I had really long hair back then. For some reason she was mad at me so while I was playing piano she took a big chunk out of the back of my hair. Ohhhh did she ever get her :kick: from Mom, though!!!!

I'm sorry I have no advice but I hope you find something that works!
I wanted to cut my hair when I was little too. I wasn't allowed to get it cut until I was 13, and it was just a trim  . I hated it because my mom would spend forever combing out the tangles and it hurt.
I even made a plan to cut it and blame it on a neighborhood boy.
