So Emma is 13mo old, and she is attached to her bottle!!!!! I do give her a sippie with meals and at times during the day, but she doesn't drink much from it. But when she wants her bottle, she lets you know it!!!!! I dont' remember having this much trouble weaning DS from the bottle!!!!! Any suggestions for weaning???? With another one on the way, if I don't wean her soon, she won't get weaned until she's in highschool! :hehe:

I don't know if i have suggestions for weaning because my baby is almost 15 months and gets her bottle only at her nap and bedtime. I don't mind giving it to her at these times. She gets her sippy during the day and with meals.

With my first, we did the whole "cold turkey" thing with her bottles. It was hell for a couple of days, but then she just forgot about them.

I think by 18 months we'll wean her. Maybe. I don't know. I am not concerned. Everyone forced me to wean by a year with my first. I didn't want to...so now I'm going to do what I feel is right for my child.

I don't see the difference of nursing to sleep and bottle to sleep. :hehe: I like the comfort it gives her.

If you really want to wean, I suggest start it just at bedtimes? If she only has it at bedtimes now, perhaps stop the bottle cold turkey and give her a sippy at bedtime instead (if she needs it to wind down).

I am having the same problem. Aiden still acts like a newborn when it comes to his bottle...every 4 hours!

Conner loved his bottle too! I was really scared how it would go but it went a lot smoother then I planned. Around then Conner was getting a bottle after breakfast, a bottle after lunch and a bottle after dinner. So we cut out one at a time. We started with the lunch bottle. He only got a sippy cup or a straw cup. Then after a week or so we switched the morning bottle with a sippy. Then after a week and 1/2 or so we switched the last bottle with a sippy. And honestly he never questioned it.

I did find that he took to the nuby sippy cups with the soft spout much easier then the hard ones. Up until about a week ago that's all he would take and now he'll take whatever.

You just gotta find what works best for you and her. Good luck Mama!

With both of my kids I never had a bottle weaning problem. This might be because I followed The Baby Whisperer to the T and NEVER put my kids down w/a bottle. Neither noticed when I replaced them with sippies.

Good luck!!! I wish I had more advice.

I agree that I would slowly reduce and replace with the sippie. We still do warm milk at nap time and bedtime. We put it in the soft Nuby or the Born Free "training cup" (soft spout) which is kind of between a bottle and sippie. I was going to stop at 1 or 18 months, but I like that the warm milk is comforting to him and he sits and snuggles with me while he drinks it, plus I feel like the milk is good for him.;)

We kind of just went cold turkey with Addie. She was used to getting sippies (straw cups) all day but still wanted a bottle for nap and bedtime. One day I just gave her a sippie at bedtime instead and that was that.

We just went cold turkey as well. Chandler was attached to his bottle, but now uses his sippie fine. It took about 5 times for him to take it, but he finally did. Good luck!

I think that's what helps us too... Conner has never went to bed with a bottle either.

With Eli we just went cold turkey and never really had a problem with it... I did start giving him his sippy though when he was 2months old. I would put water in it, and as he got older his juice I never put water or juice in his bottle.

We took the bottle away cold turkey and didn't have a problem with it at all! We used the soft spout sippy cups and put warm milk in it! I wish i had more advice! :goodluck: :support:

I expected a much bigger fight with Alice. She was down to only two bottles a day (nap time and bed time), and straw sippys the rest of the day. It's taken months but she FINALLY knows to tip the regular sippy cup back, so she's now switched to soft spout sippys instead of bottles. She still takes the straw ones occasionally but she definitely prefers the regular sippy now. We just give her warm milk in it at night and she's fine.

We never really had an issue, either, but Cohen wasn't ever super attached to his bottle. He never got one before bed or nap time, and he already like the sippy cup. I do recommend the Nuby, too, if you haven't tried it.

I hope this kid is as easy as he was, but I have a feeling I'm in for a rude awakening. :hehe:
