We had our first time-out today...

My DH bought me a new laptop for Mother's Day and it's got a little red knobby thing in the centre of the keyboard that you can use in place of a mouse. Ben is obsessed with it. Twice he came to me with the knobby thing in his hand saying "Uh oh!" so the third time, after being told each time not to touch it, he went into time-out.

It took a few tries to get him to stay on the little stool but he did stay there until the buzzer went off. He cried the whole time but he stayed sitting on the stool. It was funny because all he had to do was stand up and walk away but he didn't. :P Poor little guy...

I have no idea if these will work and from now on I'll close my laptop completely (not just lock it so he can't open any programs etc.) so the temptation isn't there. I'm sure there will be lots of other things that will tempt him but at least I know he'll sit in time-out until I tell him he can get up.

Sounds like it went well!! Our time out spot is our stairs and Brogan is just starting to have to go there every once in awhile. The bad thing is I think he likes it because he feels big like his big sister when he goes there.

Sounds like you outperformed Nanny 911. You rock!!

I bet that someone is currently selling an old Atari joystick on E-Bay or some other auction site. Might make a good gift for little man?

:hula:

Glad he stayed put! It's pretty funny that they don't even realize they can get up...

Ahh, they manage to get in to everything don't they?? I think time-outs are definitely kid-specific. I know some people who have kids that are like whatever with timeouts. But Tyler, they have always been effective. It bothers him to be away from everything, so timeouts have been useful for us. I hope it keeps working for you guys!

Awwww, poor Ben. NOT!!!

Time outs worked for us, and I haven't had to give one in a LONG time *knock on wood*
