Which is your child? How long do you plan on letting them do it? Is there any good way you can really stop it??

Dylan was neither a paci lover or a thumb sucker. :thumb: SCORE! She has low oral fixation so hopefully she won't smoke.
Aidan had a paci until about 8 or 9 months and she weaned herself. She doesn't suck her thumb either. She loves her bottle, but that will go away in a few months.
I hope this means she won't smoke.
I sucked my thumb until I was 8. I smoked for YEARS!

Addie took a pacifier but weaned herself around 4 months. She's never sucked her thumb, but about 2 months ago she started sucking her bottom lip. I figure it's just a phase and she will stop eventually, but it annoys Kirk to no end and he always tells her to stop.

Connor~spit out his binky at 4 mths and never wanted it back(he only got it when screaming and I was trying to get his milk ready, etc).
Avery~Connor got a hold of the binky and lost it when Av was like 2 mths old so he never really got into it. He does suck his thumb while asleep though but never any other time. Not really sure I can stop that since its an unconscious thing LOL.
Devinn~Never got a binky at all and doesnt do the thumb either.

Conner is a paci taker. But he's only gotten it at bed time since around a year. I wanted him off it by two but I'm not sure when I'll try. I'm scared. :hehe:

Nathaniel spit out the paci at 7 months and never took it back. The only time I catch him sucking on his hand or fingers is when he is teething and I guess the pressure feels good on his gums. :D

The little girl I nannied was ATTACHED to her pacies (She had about 5....and would have them ALL on her person  1 in her mouth, 1 in each hand, and 2 in her pockets. Comedy.) and when she was 3, we took her to Toys R Us and she traded them all in for any toy she wanted. :hehe: It worked...the mother talked to the manager while I walked Kelly around to browse and when the time came to pay, Kelly handed the man her pacies and she walked out with her toy. :hehe: She was so proud.
Matt takes a paci. They are all over the house and when he finds one he just pops it in. I don't really care. It makes him happy so it makes me happy.

Cash hated pacis, chewed his fingers but never sucked his thumb, and didn't like bottles. He's starting biting his nails some recently though, not sure what to do about that! Not worrying much right now, it's saving me cutting them :hehe:

Dylan bit her nails something fierce!! They were AWFUL...so we got the nailpolish that tastes like butt and it stopped her habit after a couple weeks.
:hehe: I don't want my little girl having ugly hands!

Cohen sucked his two middle fingers on his right hand until about 3 months ago and just stopped on his own one day. I was a thumb sucker until I was probably 10 or 11, and my teeth were JACKED, so I'm glad he quit and I didn't have to help. It did kindof make me sad though when he stopped because it made him still look like my baby.

:ditto: This is us exactly! I'm scared to take it away, even though his ped has been telling me it's time.
MJ takes a pacifier when she is falling asleep. Other than that, she has just been chewing on her fingers lately. I think it's because she's FINALLY starting to get a tooth! :hehe:

I was watching AFV last night and they had a clip of a mom with a child about 4ish who was giving up his paci. They had him tie them all to the ends of balloons and then send them up to the fairies so they could give the children who didnt have any pacis some.
The boy really latched onto that idea and didnt have any problems giving them up. I thought that was a brilliant idea to make the transition a bit easier for all.

Ben took a soother for a few months until he found his two middle fingers one day and from that day on he stopped with the soother. He still sucks his little fingers and he can do it until he's 30 for all I care. He and his spouse can deal with it. :hehe:

Jake ~ Took a paci in the beginning but used it to cut his first two teeth at 4 months then you couldn't shove it into his mouth if you tried :hehe:
Skyler ~ Took one in the beginning then weaned himself BUT his dad insisted he take one still so the battle to wean him off of it lasted until he was about 9 months. Eventually I "won" simply to throwing out all the new pacis and "clips" and he realised it was costing him a small fortune :hehe:
Sassy ~ never took a paci at all
Averie ~ never took a paci at all
None of my kids ever sucked their thumbs.

:hehe: Imagine a balloon landing in your yard with a paci tied to it? :hehe:
I think it's illegal here in CA to release balloons. I'd do it just because of that. Oooooh Breakin' the law...
