The afterpains; those contractions that are worse than labor contractions. Why doesn't anyone warn you about those??? I have had them after each birth but they do get progressively worse after each baby :(

I agree, they were worse after Maddy. After 4 pregnancies/deliveries it just seemed harder to bounce back completely. I still did well compared to some I am sure, just didn't like the fact that it took longer to feel normal.

I agree with those afterpains in the hospital. And I did learn to take stool softeners after I had Tyler (once you're home too, not just in the hospital!). I have to say (don't hit me), I had a great post-partum physically with Lily. I really felt so much better than after Tyler, because with him, my back went out and I couldn't walk. But, the most surprising I think was how much more emotional I was pp the second time. It didn't hit me for like a week, but wow..

I felt great immediately after having Averie too. I never for a second felt like I had just had a baby. Wasn't even sore "down south" and remember finding it strange that as soon as my epidural wore off I was up showering and sitting "criss cross applesauce" which was something I couldn't do with ANY of the other kids for at least a few days. The only complaint I had after Averie was those dang afterpains...OUCH!! Not looking forward to those again but boy I sure hope the recovery/pp is as easy breezy as it was with Averie when I have this baby!!

I honestly don't remember afterpains. Am I weird? :hehe:
The only after pain I had was my episiotomy. Sometimes it would twitch and OMG there was no controlling the butthole when that would happen. OUCH. And my nipples. (if you could call them that.)
BFing for me was worse than labor/delivery/PP. Sad, huh?

Jo I'm with you. I mat suck at being pregnant but I've got the labor/del/pp thing down! :hehe: carrie, I really got those pains when I was nursing, and they didn't last long. But still ouch!
Sandy I bet it will be even easier this time. You don't have time for anything else!

Biggest surprise was that my feet swelled up like water balloons. My Dr said it was from being on IV for so long, but man it was horrible. People would stop talking in mid-sentence and gasp in horror when they caught sight of my feet.
The best part was that I experienced what I swear to this day was the opposite of PP depression, I had PP euphoria. I was on such a high for like a week I felt like I was drugged, it was awesome, just so much joy I could hardly talk about it without crying tears of happiness. I hope I get that again!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had this sudden cloud of happiness after giving birth. It was midnight and I had been up for god knows how long but I didn't care!! I remember watching TLC waiting for them to bring Matt back from the nursery. It was such an awesome feeling...then the exhaustion set in lmao.

Hmmmm... I guess the biggest surprise was how quickly I basically healed from the c/s, though I still wouldnt want to do it again. Oh, and how long it took to get feeling back in that area again. So weird to have a numb belly.
Wish I would have known... don't know. I guess that bf-ing would be real work, especially in the beginning.

Lily, I go through that euphoric phase for about 2 weeks after each delivery too. Thank goodness because that's the only way I think I survived the lack of sleep and 4 older kids when Averie was born. I sure hope to have that again this time since my hands are going to be a bit more full :))

My biggest surprise after Dylan was how looooong I bled! It was almost 6 weeks and THEN I went straight into a period
Looking back, I know I had PPD, but no one talked about it 10 years ago. I was surprised that I didn't bond with my baby. I was very disappointed.
This time around, I'm surprised at how sensitive my nipples are and not in a good way. Whenever Henry touches them, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. They used to be an area of pleasure. Now, they are just annoying.

OMG yes!! How horrible. I almost bled for 8 weeks. I called the doctor and the nurse told me it's normal to bleed for up to 3 months :wtf:

I don't remember after pains. My BIG surprise (and I've NEVER told anyone about this because it was so embarrassing) was that after having a c-section it's a little tooo easy to poop after a few days. I was laying in bed and thought I was farting but pooped the bed instead. I was horrified. Kirk just laughed and said something about how he thought Addie was the one he had to worry about doing that. :hehe:
OH...and I never expected to kind of turn into psycho mommy. Kirk has been my best friend since I've known him, but he just kind of got pushed to the side because Addie was my concern. :( I'm so glad we worked through that and are back to our normal selves now. I was really worried about our marriage at times during that 1st year.

I understand what you mean about psycho mommy. I still do it and have to stop and realize that DH is a big baby too and needs the love ;)

Pooping was not nearly as big of a deal as I was led to believe it would be.
Seriously, after the first poop I was like "that's it?" I even had a 2nd degree tear haha.

Oh I was also super pissed that I started my period at 12 weeks PP.
I did everything right that led me to believe I would go at least 6-9 months w/out a period (exclusively BF'd, co-slept, etc) and it still came.
Even my midwife was like "well that's not really common..." gee thanks lady.

It is common, Candace. With Dylan I co-slept, breastfed exclusively, etc, etc...I got my period ONE MONTH after birth.
With Aidan, we co-slept and bottle/breastfed and I got my period ONE MONTH after birth.
So did my sisters and my mom :hehe: One month. 28 days. With Aidan, I was waiting for it :hehe: Condom in hand. LOL!
So, that woman doesn't really "know" common...cause around here, it's VERY common.

After my c/s I was shocked at how little pain I had, honestly. It wasn't that bad at all.
That being said, however.. I was told that the first time I stood up I'd feel like everything was going to fall out.. Well it felt like that the first time.. and the second time.. and the tenth time.. I felt like that for three weeks! It was WEIRD!
