Do you have a family history of any diseases that you need to keep an eye out for?? Do you worry about getting it or passing it on to your children?? Anything preventative you can do to avoid the disease?

I'm a walking time-bomb....let's see...my maternal grandmother and my mother both had/have hypertension, my maternal grandfather and my father both died of congestive heart failure/heart attack, and my maternal grandmother had ovarian cancer. On my father's side, his father had alzheimers and his mother died of an anyerusm (sp?)

The heart attacks from both "fathers" had tabacco use as a contributor, though not too much to do except monitor BP...I'm kinda worried about transferring those issues on to Andrew, but it seems like most of our concerns are pretty common.

Ahhhh, I have two half gene mutations that contribute to heart disease. However, eating better (i.e. no red meat and lotsa legumes) has helped keep my numbers in check. I also will take Folgarde every now and then.

All my relatives had hypertension, oddly my blood pressure is on the way low side. I believe the hypertension isn't hereditary and self induced by diet - that eastern European diet is harsh.

I have asthma, my oldest son has asthma and we already have reason to suspect that Averie may as well. I also have terrible eyesight. So far the kids don't seem to have those issues. <knock on wood>

My maternal grandmother had vasculitis (sp?) and multiple heart/circulatory issues that ran deep in her immediate family (parents & siblings). The women in the family are at increased risk and diet and avoiding smoking are our preventative measures. And of course regular check ups with a doctor. So far my mom is doing great so I hope to be as lucky and hope my kids will be as lucky as well.

My dad has had melanoma twice so we don't mess with the sun and get annual skin checks. He also has high blood pressure, but that is definitely not a problem for me.

I am stupidly healthy, my mother died of a rare blood disorder that is not genetic or inherited (their best guess is it's environmental), AFAIK my father is healthy and still alive. My grandmother died at 79 from an infection after surgery (WTG hospital) my grandfather is 90 and aside from his hearing, 100% healthy.

Sean is also healthy, as is his father, their only ailments stem from mistreatment of their bodies when they were younger. However the many of the women on his father's side of the family and also his mother have suffered and/or have died from all the female cancers (breast/cervical/ovarian) which is why I put my hands on my belly and pray every single day that Daisy gets my genes.

My dad is a diabetic and so is pretty much all his brothers and sisters. We also have high blood pressure and high cholesterol and I think that's it...

Lymphoma (my aunt died from it in a freakishly quick fashion-- 3 days!)
Throat cancer (dad)
High Blood Pressure...but mine is good.

That's it.

My grandpa had diabetes but that's because he was well over 300 pounds.

My grandmothers are both alive and well (over 89). One had heart issues but not congenital problem. The other is AMAZING and I hope I'm like her at 89.

My mom is healthy, my aunts are healthy.

But they don't smoke or drink much.

:hehe:

Cancer and stroke run on mom's side and sudden cardiac death runs on my dad's side. My mom has Lupus, which it's still questionable as to whether that's inherited or not. I've been tested, but it's hard to tell unless you're having flair ups. I've inherited a heart arrhythmia from my dad, but it was easily controlled. Not too worried about the cancer gene, since I think the family members that died of cancer were also smokers, which I am no longer.

I would say the biggest one is diabetes. My family members(my moms side)seem to get it when they hit their 70's.
There is also high blood pressure and high cholesterol on both my mom and dads side. My moms side has bad knees(my late grandpa had to have both his replaced and my mom needs them done too).
Mom has RA but dont know how pass onable that is.
My dads health is pretty clean except the high bp and chol stuff.

Most everything is just trying to maintain a relatively health style and destress to keep things lowered. Other things are just heart issues that eventually take them(both my great grandparents on moms side died from heart failure in their 80's, as did my grandpa this past year).

No cancer or anything that is known, just mainly the heart issues.

On my husbands side though both his folks died from cancers at relatively young ages so that scares the crud outta me.
