View Full Version : Sleep schedules
When did you put your LO on a sleep schedule.
I am dying here.
Is he still too young to attempt being put on one? I need some type of consistency but can't seem to find it. :idontknow:

 Sleep deprivation sucks...
We didn't start one with Ben until he was older, I think he was about 7 or 8 months old, but I'll start earlier with any future kids we have. He would fight every nap and would fight going to bed every night until I tried the EAEASY routine and it worked like a charm. It was a frickin' miracle, I tell ya! :D
That being said, I know other moms who tried that routine and it didn't work at all. Every kid is different and that makes it tough to decide what to try, what not to try, etc.

Yes, exactly what Elaine said! Do the EASY routine. I kept Cohen on a schedule and would wake him up from naps to keep him on it. It would go something like this:
6:00am wake up and breastfeed
6:15-7:30 Activity
7:30-9:00 Sleep
9:00 wake up and breastfeed
9:15-10:30 Activity
10:30-12:00 sleep
12:00 wake up and breastfeed
12:15-1:30 Activity
1:30-3:00 sleep
3:00 wake up and breastfeed
3:15-4:30 Activity
4:30-6:00 sleep
6:00 wake up and breastfeed
6:15-7:30 Activity
7:30 bedtime routine
8:00pm Bed
(one or two feedings during the night)
This was basically our routine for the first few months, and it worked fabulously. When I got him on this routine, he started sleeping through the night. I did exactly what Elaine said and got him to sleep for his nap however I possibly could, which usually involved the swing. The schedule could always vary 30 minutes either direction, but once we were on it for a month or so, I didn't have to wake him much for naps anymore. He would automatically do it

I started sleep training DS at 10 weeks. It was great and it really did help get him to sleep in his own bed and eventually get us on a schedule. That being said Charlie wasn't the easiest baby and his sleep wasn't always consistent, so I may not be the best example

I never listened and never got Conner on a schedule, well he is on one now but I never did when he was younger and all I have to say is...DO IT NOW! lol Seriously!
Thanks so much for the tips! I posted in the other thread but I am going to try this schedule today!
He's usually up at 5ish in the morning so...here goes nothing!

Yes he is not to young I started right away from day 1 at home. Good Luck! And don't stress it takes time. And even if you think you got him on one, you will have some bad days and loose it but hang in there and don't give up!

Yes, very important not to get too stressed out about it (like I did lol). One thing my sleep book recommends is picking a wakeup time that you will keep consistent every morning. You can also go to the forums at www.babywhisperer.com (http://www.babywhisperer.com) and get sample sleep schedules for babies of every age. Matthew might need to be on more of a 2-2.5 hour schedule at first. Also, I was never good in the first few months at distinguishing b/w hungry cries and other cries, so if I thought he was hungry and it had only been an hour since I fed him, I fed him again.
Edited b/c I'm an idiot. Don't know why I thought his name was William!
