What do you think? Should men get them? Should it go against their vacation time? How much time off should they get, if any? Let's discuss this new idea in the workforce!

Hmm, I am torn but honestly ONLY because of our situation I cannot phathom Kevin taking time off at all. I had Averie on a Friday so he took that day off while I labored. He stayed until 6:00 Saturday morning then was home with the other kids. We (Averie and I) came home Sunday and Kevin was back to work Monday. That's just how it is for us because he owns his own business and if he's not working then we're not getting paid.

Since it's been that way for so long here I guess I just can't wrap my head around any other scenarios, kwim?

I think it's according to how much of a role Daddy is going to be. Is he going to with the baby by himself a lot? If so, Daddy needs that bonding time with baby too, maybe not the 6wks Mommys need, but maybe 2 wks, to help Mommy get back together. If Mommy is going to be the main one taking care, the Daddy could take off long enough to help Mommy get some rest. I dont know what I would have done without my Daddy being home to help, I had to have an emergency c-section and felt like everytime I picked Nathaniel up that I coming apart. Having 16 staples down my stomach was horrible!!!

Sean got 2 weeks of leave, it was nice. I think it should be an option for sure.

I think paternity leave should be when the baby hit ONE! LOL They sleep as a newborn and so what can daddy do anyway? I'd love for Henry to be home with me this summer for a couple of weeks! It's going to be looong

NOt having been there yet, I really can't give a personal assessment. However, I told DH to plan one week. He had to bid his vacation for the year already. He decided to bid 2 weeks in September around the due date, which they will let him move depending on when I deliver. I was surprised he did two weeks, but am glad he did. I figure I'll be using all the help I can get those first couple weeks and it'll be nice to have him supporting me, not to mention it will give him some time to get used to hearing a crying baby in the middle of the night.

DH gets nothing!! :argh: He has to take his vacation leave for the weeks when we have this baby so we're scrounging up and saving them all. I think it would be nice for him to be home with the new baby and hang out with Matt so I can figure out all the nooks and crannies.

My husband got 10 days off and thank god because I needed it. For one thing we didn't have family here and #2 is I could hardly move...I changed one diaper in the hospital because DH had to run home but other than that DH did all the rest. I know that my delivery was a little out of the norm but again Thank God for paternity leave!!
