I started doing some of Cohen's feedings on formula when he was 6 months old. I was lucky that he wasn't picky at all and we used the generic Target brand. When he fully weaned from the breast around 9 months he went to full on formula and did great.
I plan on pumping at work when I go back in 3 weeks  and I'm not opposed to supplementing if need be.

We never had luck with the Enfamil brand; it just didn't sit well with Aiden's tummy.
We went from Similac Isomil to Similac Alimentum (the expensive crap!). He was on Alimentum until about 10 months, and then he was able to tolerate the Soy again.

I don't have a preference. Averie never passed a drop of formula past her lips but my other kids did at some point. Each had to have a different kind from Enfamil with iron to Nutramogen (sp?) so in my experience it's all about the individual child and their digestive needs.
Matt had similac when I was pumping in the beginning because i couldn't keep up with him.
We used all of the premixed samples and then some of the can. I'm glad I never had to buy any of it though because it's so $$$.
I tried again around 11 months because I thought I wasn't making enough milk and the look and screams that came from him were hysterical...like I just poured battery acid in his mouth.

Store brand formula rocks!!! And it's sooooo cheap!!! I was like, "no way" when considering it....But did research on the wal-mart and target brands and was surprised at how wonderful the reviews were.
Once I threw my WIC voucher at the health dept lady and told her where to shove it, I didn't have any financial help and am so glad I decided to try the store brands. It's amazingly cheaper.
DD had to use the Enfamil AR at night...And that was outrageous, like $25...Target makes a generic and it's only $15.

We used Parents Choice cuz it was like Similac only budget friendly.
My middle boy had NeoSure for a while cuz of weight issues.
If it feeds your child and they are growing and healthy...I dont care what you feed 'em LOL.

Annie had a wretched digestive system as a little one, so we had to put her on Nutramigen. Expensive as hell, but worth it!

We used Nestle's Good Start brand from the time we brought him home till about 6 months, and then we were approved for WIC and he went to Similac Advanced.
In the beginning when I was contemplating formula because BFing sucked and I didn't like it at all we were going to go with Costco brand. Our pedi said they are all the same and sure enough they are!

Two babies in a row now, the basic Similac Advanced has not worked out. With Alice it became apparent right away; she'd been on Enfamil Gentlease Lipil and handled that really well. Then we needed to get on WIC, and they didn't cover that so we tried Similac. She threw it up, undigested, every time. She ended up on Good Start Supreme, and did fine on that.
With Brendon, it took awhile to become apparent because we were only supplementing with it for the first two months of his life. He'd throw up every once in awhile but I didn't really think much of it. Once I threw in the towel and he started on formula full time, he was throwing up more often. We got him switched to Similac Sensitive and he is doing SO much better.

Just a little FYI, years ago when I was on WIC Ethan needed Nutramigen (sp?) so the pediatrician wrote me a prescription for it and WIC covered it that way. Was a total PITA but at least his colic and weight issues were taken care of and WIC was still available to me.
