I just received a bill from our insurance company saying that we owe $297.00 for Chandler's hearing test that he had done in the hospital because our insurance doesn't cover hearing tests!!! What crap is that?! They just came into my room and took his hearing test without asking if it was covered, which I just assumed that it was. I called my DH and he is calling them now, so we'll see where he gets with them, but I got nowhere...grrrrrrrr.

Oh my that's crazyness!! The hospital should have never done the test without asking you. Why wouldn't your company cover hearing test anyway? That doesn't even make any sence!! :hug:I hope you don't have to pay that!!

They said that there was nothing they could do, and since we weren't members at the time, they don't have the recording from our conversation when I asked the guy if anything wouldn't be covered. I told them that there was nothing in the contract that stated this, and they said that they don't write the contract. Well give me the person who does!!!!!!! I am so mad!!! Chris said to call the hearing people and tke it up with them. I would like to know why they didn't ask before doing it. I would have called my insurance company right away to find out. I don't know what to do now, but it looks like I have to pay the darn bill!!!!!

That's ridiculous!!!! I would be steaming, there must be a way around your situation. Hearing tests for newborns is fairly standard from what I understand, why would the insurance not cover it!!! I hate insurance companies!!! :buttkick:

That is pure craziness. I had tons of insurance woes after Cohen's birth. My doc's office kept trying to charge me like $1500 that I didn't owe! I hope you get something figured out soon girl.

I'm so sorry Rayanne - insurance companies blow. We are still dealing with some issues from when Jasia was born. sheesh!

That is so weird they don't cover hearing tests. I thought that was just standard!!! I would call the hearing test people like Chris said, because you shouldn't have to pay for something standard!

That is so weird that it's not covered. It's pretty standard. I hope it gets resolved.

Well, we are getting it taken care of! Chris' company is paying for it, or so they said. Chris is faxing all of the paperwork to them today.

I called the hospital, where he was born, and they said that it was a mandatory test, and was part of the metabolic screening. She said it's part of the state law to have it done before the child leaves the hospital. I called the insurance company...again, and told them what the hospital said, and they said that the only thing I could do was appeal the bill, so I told them that that is what I wanted to do. The guy said to get the paperwork stating that it is a state law and it should go in my favor easier that way. Basically, they want me to do all the work so they don't have to...I should be the one getting paid!!! So, I call the hospital again, and this time I get another nurse who was a witch. She started giving me an attitude saying that she doesn't have the time to debate it with me, but basically I signed a release form saying that I wanted the test done, and it's out of thei hands now. I had the right to decline the test. I didn't know it wasn't covered though!!!! She said I could go to medical records and they could help me out more. By how? Telling me that I did sign the release form that is sitting in my hand as we speak? Once I started using the words "hun" and "sweetie" she totally changed her tone, and apologized for her coming off harsh. I totld her that I wasn't trying to argue with her or start a fight, but I needed help to get my bill covered and I was lost! After I hung up with her, I did what any daddy's little girl would do, and I called my daddy...lol. Once I told him everything, he said that I should be able to find the Florida Statute Law that states that it is the law to have it done...and I DID!!!!! I then called my insurancxe company again, I swear I need my own direct line now, and told the lady that it was a state law and it should be covered. She then went on to tell me that there was nothing she could do because it was in the cotract, and they couldn't override the contract...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!! So, I called Chris, and told him that it was in his hands now. He called the union steward for his company, and they told him that they would take care of it. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry this was so long.
