POTD 5/19: Do people understand you?

The poll of the day is:

Do people really understand you?

It is said that you never really know a person, no matter how close you are to them. Is this true? Do you ever really know or understand a person? Or do people ever really ever know or understand you? If yes, why? If no, why not?

I said no! I don't even know myself. lol Because really, I don't. Heck I guess some people may know me better than I know myself.

Someone can only know a person if they are open and honest with everything. But I am sure everyone has something that not everyone knows.

I think there are some people who really do know me. To get to know someone, you have to open up and be a bit transparent about certain areas.

I am the type of person that prefers a few close friends rather than having a lot of surfacey acquaintances. James and I are very much opposite. He doesn't let very many people in to see the very deep part of him.

I don't enjoy meeting a ton of people because I have no interest in forming close relationships with all of them. It sounds weird but I want to have deeper friendships so I guard that until I trust someone.

I love having those friends that have taken the time to get to know me. I enjoy taking the time to get to know them too. Sometimes it is hard because James and I are wired differently in that way. I tend to shut down in large groups where I have to be casual with a ton of people. He thrives off of that. Funny how that works.

I have to agree with everything that Carmen said. I like to keep the friends and relationships that have taken the time to dig in and find out who I am. Then there are those that I talk to once a week at church but don't really take any time to create a lasting friendship with me, so they really don't know me or understand me.

I guess some do and some don't. My family knows who I am. I pretty much say it like it is.

Acquaintances do not know me but that's understandable ;)
