View Full Version : Chipped front tooth!
So last night Talon was sitting on the couch and dh was leaning over the back of it wearing a bike helmet (Talon loves to wear helmets :p ) anyway, Talon pulled on it and it fell of dh's head and hit Talon in the mouth. It made his lip puffy and he was upset, but with some cuddles he was fine. Well today when I got him up from his nap I noticed that his front tooth is chipped in the corner...notciably chipped.
What do I do? Do I take him to a kids dentist? He's never been yet.
Poor guy!
I don't think there's much they can do...I think they have to check for nerve damage? I can't remember what happened when I chipped mine but I had my adult teeth already. You can always call and find out. Sorry I'm not much help!

Yeah I'd take him in just to be sure it doesn't need to be pulled. Cohen has a chipped front tooth, and I took him in when I first noticed it. Everything was fine. I, on the other hand, chipped my tooth at about 1 and had to have my tooth pulled. Yep, I was snaggle toothed for like 6 years!

I agree I would make him an appointment just to get it checked. Hopefully it will be fine and not need to be pulled. Poor Talon!

Yep, I would call the dentist. I doubt it needs to be a kids dentist. Duncan just had his first dental appointment and we took him to our dentist. He was great with him, and I liked that I could take Duncan to a dentist that I already knew and trusted.

Well Sadie still has her chipped tooth from when she was 2. And the dentist said that there is not much to do it will fall off. Now the only advise i have is to make sure you brush well for some reason dd got a discolored patch on it since I think that the enamel is not there to protect the tooth.

I missed this but better late than never...huh?
You probably don't remember but Gabriel chipped his tooth when he was 8 months! My mom had him at the pool at the YMCA and he was holding onto the wall (with my mom holding him of course) and he sneezed and hit his tooth on the side of the pool. It is his top tooth and it wasn't even all of the way in YET! I was sooooo mad...:hehe: I have long since gotten over it after the stitches in his head....
Anyway, I made an appointment at the pediatric dentist because I wanted to know if the could "fix" it...silly me. They just looked at it to make sure it was only the enamal and there wasn't any damage. The dentist told me what to look out for. She said if it turns dark closely following the injury to the tooth it is kind of like a "bruised tooth" and it will eventually lighten back up. She told me to bring him back if it turns a "greyish" color over time. Needless to say, it did neither and it was just an enamal chip but I now take him every 6 months for a checkup. I hope that helped and I am sorry Talon chipped his tooth...but just keep telling yourself that they will fall out and you can always "touch up" professional pics. I had it done for his 1 yr close up picture...:hehe:

Emma has a chipped front tooth. She fell at the zoo. Hers is just fine. Its not black or anything. I think he will be ok, just watch it..
We went to the dentist and that's just what he said, that it looked fine. No nerve damage or anything exposed, just enamel. He said to just keep an eye on it and if it hurts him or turns colors to bring him back. Otherwise start coming every 4-6 months to get him used to going. He said once Talon is old enough to sit still we could have it bonded if we want to so that you can't tell. I can't imagine him sitting still and it will fall out anyway at like 5 or 6 right? So we'll see about that. ;)
Bonding takes some time. I had 2 teeth bonded twice...I don't know how any toddler can sit for that. And you're right, the baby teeth fall out so no biggie. (Plus my bondage came right off when I smacked my teeth again!)
