Weaning
Whether it be from bottle/boob/paci or anything. What is the easiest way to wean a child from something. Tips/tricks? Do some children wean themselves from comfort items?

We took the bottle at 1 year, and paci he got rid of at 7 months.
We just took the bottle, and didn't give it back. He whined the first couple of days, but learned to love his sippys. :hehe:
I think kids trade off comfort items for other items, say a paci for a blanket, and so on.

I took the paci away from Eli at 3months and bottle at one year both times cold turkey. Taking away the bottle went very well he could have cared less but I had been giving him a sippy starting at 4months... He carries a blanket I refuse to take that from him...
Addy Oh my! She took a paci for a while then she found her thumb!! And she is in LOVE with it! I am in TROUBLE! I can't take her thumb from her like a paci... I don't know what I will do to break her of this...

Dylan weened herself from my breast and the bottle (by a year). She just refused them one day.
Aidan weened herself of the paci, but the bottle will be a betch. I'm not worried though. I won't be all crazy about weening like I was with Dylan (who weened herself anyway)...Aidan gets her bottle every night at bedtime and at nap time. Any other time and she drinks from a sippy or just a cup. I see no difference than if I nursed her this long. I'd like to start giving milk though...buying formula sucks!
Matt is still deeply attached to his paci. I have no plans on weaning him any time soon.
He self weaned from the breast right before his 1st birthday.

I never BF but with the bottle I just got him down to the nightime bottle only and at 11 months I started with 10oz and reduced the amount by 2oz every other night until he got down to 2oz total and then offered him a straw cup instead. It worked great and he quickly give p the straw cup at night too. He still has a pacifier for nap and bed so...I'll get to it at some point.

Hmmm, as far as from breast/bottle I just took them away and slowed things down. Like the bottle I took away all bottles but the am/pm ones at a year. Then after about 4 days I took the am bottle away then 4 days later the pm one. Same with sippy cups.
The paci's we never got into really so there was no weaning. At 4 mths Connor spit his out and never wanted it again(I only gave them paci's when they were screaming bad and I was trying to get their bottles ready, etc). The other two never had one after their hospital stays.
If they had had them for a longer time period Id have taken them at a year ....no ifs, ands, nor buts. Tough love all the way.

With Tyler, we just took away his bottle and he didn't much care :hehe: With Lily, we night-weaned her around 10 months. I say we, because it took dh being home on vacation and going in with a cup of water when she would wake up. By the third night, she just quit when she realized all she was getting was Daddy and some water :hehe: THen she just kind of weaned herself. She went through a crazy teething phase at about 14/15 months, and just stopped.
With the pacifier, again, just took it away from Tyler and said they're all gone. I'm not sure what we'll do with Lily. Both kids I downgraded to naptime/bedtime only though by a year.

We had to slowly wean Conner from bottles. We would replace one bottle at a time with a sippy (had to be soft spout). It took a few weeks but the bottle was finally got and doing it that way be barely noticed and never once asked for a bottle.
As for paci's.. Yeah we'll work that in due time :hehe:

Peyton's bestfriend is her Paci, so no plans to wean her off that anytime soon.
and she only has her bottle at night and first thing in the morning the rest of the day she takes her sippy cup.
