Just an observation...
So we just got back from a week at the beach. And around us were plenty of other little ones around us either on the beach, in restaurants, at the board walk... so how come I never saw any other mamas nursing babies? I know that you can be pretty inconspicuous while nursing, but still...

I agree!! We ate out quite a bit while we were on leave and I nursed every single time we were in a restaurant. I'm getting good at being all ninja about it.
I was at Target one day and a momma was walking around with her baby on the boob. No sling, no blanket, just holding him with no shame. I walked up to her and told her what an awesome momma she was and that I was so happy to see her doing that. I think she thought I was a crazy, but I figured she probably got enough dirty looks and maybe would like to hear something positive for a change. :)

Don't get me started on this. I'm liable to go into a rant. :hehe:
Most of them are probably covered up or hiding somewhere. In their car, in a fitting room, in a bathroom (gag) where ever because they're afraid of what others will say. It ticks me off.
I'm so glad I live in an area where nobody looks twice if you're nursing your baby. :twothumbs:

:ditto: No cover for me this time...I say that now but who knows :hehe:

Well I'll be the first to say I use a cover and am not in the least bit ashamed of it. I am extremely modest and have no desire to flash anyone any boobie. I do try to avoid extremely public nursing just because that's what makes me most comfortable. Yes I would nurse in the car or in a dressing room if possible because again. That's how I'm comfortable. However, if baby is hungry, I'll feed baby WHEREVER we are, period. I typically feed Aven before we go to restaurants because it's just easier. On the way home from our trip however, I was alone with the two kids so we would stop at rest stops and get out and sit at a picnic table and feed while cohen ran around and played. There was this old dude who was mowing the grass and kept getting closer and closer and was beginning to freak me out because he mowed the same patch of ground like 12 times. :hehe:

I'm a car nurser.....with a cover on
I'm hypersensitive about making others uncomfortable so I do it discreetly or hidden away. I will *not* nurse in a bathroom unless it's a "family bathroom" and has one of those sections (kinda like living rooms without the TV) for nursing mothers.

Heather, I had a very similar experience when I was EPing for Sam.
If men could be a bit more mature, and women a bit less *****y, it would make it easier for all of us who prefer to breastfeed/EP.
BTW, My aunt Terrie breastfed all of her children, born in '77, '84, and '85, for 16-19 months. She nursed my second cousin while pregnant with the third, and nursed him into his 19th month.
Times have clearly changed regarding child restraints in cars, but once, she left my grandmother's house late and wanted to get home to put the baby to bed, but also was desperate to relieve the pressure in her breasts, so she breastfed while driving. Even back then, of course, she didn't recommend that. But she is a great breast-feeding role model from a time when not many women around here breastfed their kids at all, much less extendedly!

I use a cover a lot or sling/baby carrier when I'm out, but I will nurse when needed, regardless of where I am - beach, restaurant, etc. I actually had to nurse on a putt putt golf course on Sunday night! And, to be honest, I did get some rather nasty looks even though I was using a cover. Oh, and I left a restaurant to sit outside on a bench one night, but that was more b/c DH's family friends were there and seriously rubbing me the wrong way. Nursing was a good excuse to get some air and a break from those people! :hehe:
I just found it odd that I was on vacation a whole week in a family oriented place and never saw a single nursing baby other than my own.

Yeah, they are all probably hiding in cars & bathrooms, truthfully.
The day I went to church with Daisy the first time I was misinformed & told that there wasn't a room to nurse in. So I was nursing her under a cover in the lobby area outside the sanctuary. And even under a cover, I was getting the stink-eye from a woman sitting near me, who is a sunday school teacher, who knows I work in her department!
I use the 2 shirts method when I'm somewhere with all women, like at our playdates, etc... and use a cover when I'm in public. But I know a lot of women just feel like they have to go hide. A friend who is a first time mom posted on FB the other day that she was melting because she was outside a restaurant in the car nursing her son. I'm sending her my extra nursing cover, she said she is way to self-conscious not to use one and couldn't figure out how to make a blanket work. I am so happy when my friends choose to BF, but I hate to see them banish themselves to hot cars and bathrooms because of it!
My mom tried to get me to use the bathroom to nurse once. That didn't happen.
I don't mind going to a car, an empty room or a bench by myself but I refuse to nurse in a bathroom. How disgusting!

Covers don't bother me as much as a mother having to leave because they feel uncomfortable. I nurse in the car all the time but that's because there's usually no where to sit where ever we are and in the car we can keep Ben contained and entertained with music. Other than that I nurse all over the place. Except at my SIL's parents' house tonight (tomorrow is my brother's and SIL's 30th anniversary so they had us all for dinner). I have to admit that I wasn't all that comfortable nursing in front of her 80 year old father although he probably wouldn't have minded. I went into a spare room to feed Thomas and wound up with my sister, one SIL, Ben, my mom, one of my nephews and my DH coming in at some point to visit. :hehe:
Women nurse their babies freely here without any fear. If anyone has an issue with a mother nursing in public they generally keep it to themselves.

I'll be the oddball and admit that I usually went in the bathroom to nurse. I just never felt comfortable personally, just whipping it out at the table while eating or anywhere else in public for that matter. The bathroom was usually the most private place that I could feed her, but I also was known to in the car as well.
I pumped 15 times a week in a bathroom at work because there wasn't anywhere else, so I guess it just never bothered me.

I am very discreet when I nurse. I did it a few times out in public, but I used my cover. Most of the times I feed her before we leave and many, many times she is fed in the car before we go into the store, if that's what we're doing. If I am at someone's house, I pull out my cover but I don't leave the room (I don't like missing out on conversations).
Around here, I have yet to see another mom nursing in public, cover or not (besides the one I saw in her car @ Target).

Well. Apparently I'm the oddball. :hehe: The thought of someone seeing a flash of my boob doesn't bother me. I'm not screaming for attention I'm trying to get a squirming baby latched on.

Boobs don't bother me either unless they look like mine :hehe: I think NIP would be a lot easier if my boobs weren't so big and floppy.

I have many friends here who also nurse, so I don't ever leave a room to go do it elsewhere. Most of the men are used to it anyway. Yeah and actually right now, it's much cooler to nurse in the car in the ac than try to do it outdoors. I thought for a brief second about feeding Aven on the front porch this morning so that Cohen could play outside before I remembered it was way too hot and snapped back into reality :hehe:

It doesn't bother me either, but you already know about my hangups about nursing in the U.S. vs. Canada! :hehe:

And you know we're just a bunch of flashers up here. :hehe:
Heather, a lot of the time I nurse in the car because it's too frickin' hot outside. If we're at the mall or something I'll nurse there but if we're out somewhere I'll go to the car to cool off. :twothumbs:

I also will nurse in the car or have gone to the bathroom mainly b/c I am incredibly modest. While I was in Philly last week though I did use a cover while at a restaurant. My issue with the cover though is Andrew flails and grabs and most of the time I'm concerned he's gonna move it and I'm gonna flash someone hehe
