Understanding Your Ability to Get Pregnant

The NEW! FIRST RESPONSE ® Fertility Test for Women is an accurate test of FSH level to assess ovarian reserve (egg quantity and quality) – one of the leading single indicators of a woman’s ability to get pregnant.

Every woman is born with all of the eggs that she will ever have. Each month one or more eggs will mature in the ovaries in preparation for ovulation. As the eggs mature and are released over time, the number of eggs, which is a measure of a woman’s fertility potential, decreases.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone, (FSH), is one of many hormones that your body uses to regulate your menstrual cycle and to control the maturation of your eggs. FSH signals the ovaries to mature one or more eggs for ovulation each month/cycle.
If your ovarian reserve (eggs) is low in quantity or quality, your pituitary will produce higher than normal FSH levels early in the cycle, trying to stimulate your ovaries to produce a mature egg. In other words, when your quantity or quality of eggs (fertility potential) is low, your FSH level may be high.
Therefore, knowing your FSH level on Day 3 of the menstrual cycle can be helpful in finding out if you are able to get pregnant.
FSH level assesses ovarian reserve, one of the leading single indicators of a woman’s fertility potential and now it is possible to gauge your fertility potential through a simple at-home test with over 95% accuracy.

I was going to tell my sister about this. I'm not sure if it would cause undo worry ya know? Like how sometimes OPKs don't work for some people...

Yeah OPK's did not work for me.... But it may be worth a shot... For like some girls with Dr's that won't even talk to them about fertility problems till they have been trying for a year...
I don't know...
But isn't it amazing the things they are coming up with...

I don't think I'd try it. I hate being worried all the time and I'd be scared I'd get bad news. What are the legal repercussions of it? I mean what if they tell someone she's pretty much infertile and then BAM she's pregnant? Or vice versa? Can you sue?

You know, they were talking about this and endorsing it on The Doctors about two months ago. I understand they likely got paid to endorse it but I think there are ethical issues for a doctor to rant and rave about something. The OBGYN on the panel said it's good and could be a warning flag for your doctor that somethng is wrong. She also said it's just as accurate as the testing they do in the drs office early in your cycle to check FSH levels.

That said, I'd try it and I may now that I'm sooooo old and want one more baby.

I'm just scared that I would worry unnecessarily.

Well I was told I would never have a baby so I quit taking BC and 6 months later I found out I was 2 month pregnant with Jessie. Paige took 15 months and Clomid to have. I have been NTNP for over a year and so far nothing if I don't have a BFP by the end of the year I will just make an appointment with my Ob-Gyn. I am not going to buy the FR things I will just go to the DR and Get more Clomid :)

I saw this posted elsewhere and looked up the test. It is basically supposed to be read like an OPK, but in this case you do NOT want the line to be as dark or darker than the control line (because that indicates a hight level of FSH).

I think this test potentially will cause a lot of undue worry. For one thing I see women not following the instructions and testing on the wrong day (you are supposed to test on CD 3), so they may accidently test when their FSH is actually elevated as part of the ovulation process. For another, it is the age old problem people have reading OPK's - is the line as dark or darker or not (and in this case someone may worry that their line is almost as dark, when it could be just a dye issue).

And ultimately, it is the FSH NUMBER that is important, so what is really the point of this test? (Besides making more money for First Response).

Waste of money IMHO
