Since John was born at home, he was not circumsized just after birth like Duncan. We went around and around on whether to do it or not, and DH finally took control and called to schedule it. So next week, poor baby John will be circumsized.

I feel better about it than I did with Duncan b/c John is a little older and b/c we are having a moyhel (sp?) do it. I've heard they are better, more caring, more careful, better trained, etc. And this one comes highly recommended by others in the area who are either Jewish and did the full bris (which we are not) or who, like us, had a home birth and needed to do this later on. But I'm still a nervous wreck. And I don't even know why. When Duncan had this done, he was just upset for a couple days, then all was fine.

Ouch!

:hehe: we had Nathaniel's done when he was 2 days old by his pedi.

I hope he doesn't hurt to bad for to long :)

Good luck! Cash had the plastibell kind done in the hospital, he didn't even notice! I think you're smart to use a Mohel. I hope it goes smoothly & easily for you both.

Don't they use local anesthesia?

Don't they use local anesthesia?

The mohel does. I've heard (and I don't know if this is true) that some OBs do not - just a paci with sugar. Like I said, no idea if this is true. Also, the local wears off. The first time Duncan peed after he had his, he was so upset. It was so sad.

A paci with sugar? :hiding: That wouldn't help cutting a 2 month old's penis.

I'm glad you're getting Moyhel. Have you talked to him directly to see how he does it?

Scary!

The moyhel does use a local. Of course, I don't think he'll be too happy getting that shot either, but it's better than the alternative.

I'm going to work from home that day so I can nurse him. Poor little guy... :(

This is yet another reason I hope I get a girl if we go for three! ;)

With Duncan, we just did it without much thought. This time, we really thought about it and discussed it much more. I am leaning a little bit more towards not doing it than doing it, but I've heard compelling arguments both ways. I don't think I would agree to do it without a moyhel. This one happens to also be an OB/GYN, so we are going to his office for the procedure.

I don't know if it's because he was born at home, but I feel a lot more protective of John. It's weird. Like he's untainted or something. I don't know how to describe it.

I feel that way with my John. I want to make sure he's not forgotten and gets as much as I can give.

Oh, my OB did a local AND sugar water paci when he was born. The sugar water helps ease pain in newborns.

:hugs: :support:

It's a decision I never wanted to make and thank god I never had to -- although I told DH he would have to fight me to the death to cut a son.

I'm glad you guys researched and came to a conclusion that feels right for your family :)

Will the procedure be done at your home?

Brendon's pedi did local anesthesia and a tiny bit of tylenol for him. He handled it like a champ, but the plastibell looked awkward a few days afterward.

I'm sure everything will go great! I'm glad you found someone you're comfortable with.

No, we have to go to his OB/GYN office. I guess we could have asked him to come to us, but I'm sure that would be more expensive.

DH called me after he scheduled it to be sure he scheduled it right and I didn't want a bris.... Um, what?! Dude, we are not Jewish... :hehe:

Yeah and can't you get a cake for it too?

I remember in high school we got my friend a cake for his birthday but had the bakery write "Congratulations on your Bris" on it instead of Happy Birthday!

Good Luck, hope it goes quickly and smoothly with little pain for him and you.;)

Connor was done the day after he was born and he didnt have any issues. Av was done a couple weeks after birth(we had to pay for his cuz insurance had changed policies)and he cried for about 5 mins and was fine after that.

Devinn isnt done because his insurance would cover it and we didnt have the funds to do it. So I get to experience both sides of the coin.

So I've been thinking about this too much. What kind of present does one give at a bris? Little woolen penis hats to keep the tip warm while it heals?

:hehe:

FutureMrsF could make the penis hat.

I'm glad that you are comfortable with the decision you have made, I hope he heals quickly. I told DH that if we are having a boy I definitely want a Moyhel to do it, for religious reasons, even though we are not Jewish. :hehe:

Since you live nearby, if you are having a boy I can send you all my moyhel research! I found some in DC and Baltimore willing to do a non-bris circ. :D
